Reflection

This on-line work seemed more like a refresher course for me as I completed 23 things last summer. I don't have a lot of "free" time to putter around on the computer as I stay busy w/ teaching, coaching, and researching topics that I use for grant writing as well as staying current in my field. I did enjoy going back and reviewing the skills. I spent time looking at other options to the ones that I am currently using and enjoyed doing so.
I incorporate technology in the gym which is an unlikely place, but it has been very successful and students enjoy it. I have found that although the high school kids are tech savvy, they do not know about all the tools that we covered in 23 things and 11 tools. I spend time showing them how we use it for HF classes and how they can also use this in their other classes.
What I love most about working w/ high school students is using them to help me when I hit a bump w/ technology. I don't hesitate to ask them for help and several students sign up for my classes just to be the "tech" helper with other students as we create projects.
I have been researching and taking lessons in PBL and 21st learning, and tech is part of this. I believe that giving students options in the class allows them to take ownership in their learning. Technology gives them the freedom to make choices about how to present their projects, document data and be creative while doing so. I also use technology to access their mastery in skills and feel that technology is the bests way for me to do so.
Because I was busy this summer, the on-line course gave me the flexibility to do the work at my own pace and time. This is a plus for people like me.
I will continue to take any on-line tech classes offered by the district as I am always looking for new ideas and want to continue to grow as an educator.
I am teaching a tech class for HF teachers this week and had planned to show many of the skills from 23 things and 11 tools as it applies to our field.

tool 11

I have my students sign contracts w/ me and particular forms prior to gaining access to my tech toys.
They need to know about :
1. copyright laws-how to document sources
2. Know that when I am talking, they are to put them down and listen.
3.appropriate resources, consequences for inappropriate behavior and web surfing.

tool 10

Ok, so I was awarded the technology grant and guess what. I had to blog, write, respond all year long about the use of these items.
I-touches, flip cams, shuffles, digital cameras, macs: Love them, gotta have it.
Hopefully, the district has worked out some of the kinks w/ some of these issues with apps, log ins, etc.
I also write grants and enter contests demonstrating how to use tech in the gym.
I use HF apps: they are free making it even better. I don't download some of the apps bc my students share the touches and that many students can't collect data off on one app. I show my students what apps I like and they download them to their personal touches.

I use touches in the gym and connect them to tv's, big screens for my students. They move around in stations and choose activities they want to participate in. I upload student made videos with them. I use them everyday

tool 9

OMG !! I use this all the time, I also got to do it when I worked on 23 things.
I love skype bc students can communicate w/ others, I love it as I was able to see and talk to family when they were in Italy for the summer.
My students will be skyping w/ other students across the country this fall.
Jing is usseful when students want to create lessons on power point. It is also great for giving directions like Elmore does when he has to remind everyone how to do something on computers.

tool 8

I have been doing this in my gym for several years. I have uploaded several dances as we use them projected on the screen. My students use videos as well for research info.
My favorite: BU flashmob Thriller
Cupid Shuffle

tool 7

I have been doing this for several years and love it. Students create videos, I create them for personal use as well. I have created movies for grants and contests.
I don't use my voice or photos of myself-EVER !!! I have posted a short video of one of my athletes teaching a skill.

tool 6

I am the wiki queen !!!! I use them everyday and share them w/ others in my field. I use it to store student pics, videos, documents, and projects. I also upload lesson videos that students can access at home. Parents can also access from my wiki's which is what we need to do to keep communication open.
